North West recently stole her mom’s $1,700 Balenciaga boots, and her good taste isn’t stopping there.
This Snapchat-happy toddler has even developed a palate for snacks — and they’re relatively healthy. In fact, Kim Kardashian has rounded up North’s favorite snacks on her blog.
According to Kim, the 3-year-old loves munching on Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies, Sun-Maid Raisins, Annie’s Honey Bunny Grahams, Rice Dream Organic Rice Milk and Santa Cruz Organic Apple Sauce.
“When it comes to snacks, I’m really into giving North nutritious versions of fun foods that every kid loves,” she writes. “I do think it’s really important to feed my kids more nourishing options, especially while they’re growing.”
So exactly how healthy are North West’s go-to snacks?
Both Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies and Honey Bunny Grahams tout themselves as all-natural. The snacks use organic wheat and do not include artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.
But despite the inclusion of organic whole grains, the rabbit-shaped snacks are lacking in various key nutrients, including vitamins and minerals.
Raisins contain antioxidants, iron, fiber and other nutrients, but they should be eaten sparingly. Like all dried fruits, they’re high in calories. And their sugar content could contribute to tooth decay.
Rice milk can supply many essential nutrients and help promote cardiovascular health. It is, however, high in carbohydrates and low in protein and calcium.
Finally, applesauce can be a nutritious snack — if you go with the unsweetened version. It’s low in calories and high in vitamin C and fiber.
As with all packaged foods, paying attention to the food label is a good practice. For instance, a serving of Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies contains high amounts of sodium — 250 milligrams (the same amount as the leading competitor).
Our verdict: These snacks can be healthier than many other popular prepackaged snacks when eaten in moderation and in conjunction with a well-balanced diet.
